Mosburg
Wiesbaden-Biebrich

built by AV Andreas Zitzmann (Hanau, Germany)

AV Zitzmann is being featured for the second time.  (Why?  He sends pictures.  Try it yourself.)  He was born in Wiesbaden-Biebrich and played near this castle.  At the time the castle was a ruin (WWII), though it was restored in the 90s, so he was not permitted to play in it.  His collection is relatively small -- about 3,500 stones.  He has the AF set through # 18A -- a basic set (Why an "A" set is a basic set is a long story; so don't ask.  If you are interested, get my book on CD-ROM.).  As before, he has drawn the layer plans (5 sheets).  See the first layer at the bottom of this page.

There was a fortification in this location in 874 and the present design comes from 1611.  The fort soon ceased to have any defensive value.

This lithograph is from 1854.  Keep in mind that it is an artist's impression, not a photograph.

As it is today; restored in the 1990s.well known drawing.  Clearly it is a small fortification -- a supporting, not a main, fort.

As you can see, the Anker version is not large.  But, like the original, it is very attractive.  Circular towers have been converted to square towers.
