Exhibition Castle of 1894
built by AV George Hardy (Charlottesville, VA, USA)
The available documentation includes four photographs of the original exhibition castle and two drawings by the Richter Art Department. AV Jan Hauer owed the photographs, which I bought. I used them, along with the one drawing (the only one known at that time), to build this model about 12 years ago. The first view is well known from the advertising poster by the Richter firm. This poster is known in Dutch, German and Czech.
I built the castle until the ceiling stopped me. In addition the base
was reduced in height by one layer. Other than that, the size was not
changed. As always, no glue was used. Compare this photograph
with the drawing below; the orientation is the same.

The drawing is well known. Note the Gothic arches in the chapel and
the tower with the clock. The original photograph below shows the model
exhibited in 1894. It had Romanesque arches.

Not only were the arches changed, but there are a number of arch structures
which require gluing. It is hard to see them in the picture as posted,
as it is a lot smaller then the original photograph.

The third view, showing the ramp into the castle.

This view was discovered in 1999. It is from the Liepziger Illustrirte
Zeitung of December 1, 1894. It differs in some details from the
original photograph. Note windows in the palace and the number of slots
in the wall on the right.

Another original photograph. There are two more, but these are enough
for comparison purposes.
