Opera House in Graz, Austria

by Herbert Thaller

AV Thaller has built a model of this opera house before.  Now that his collection is larger, he undertook to build a larger version.  The opera house was originally called City Theater and was built towards the end of the 19th C.  The rebuilt design is without decoration, so AV Thaller based his building on old pictures.  He limited himself to roof stone shapes found in # 34, Lyck, -- which means 45°, 76°/14°, 83°/7° plus the quarter round and banana stones.  Missing are the 64°/26° (1:2) and 53°/37° (3:4) roof stones, which add a great deal of flexibility to roof design.  The building is quite large -- 88.75 cm long, 61.25 cm wide and 60 cm high.

These pictures give roughly the same view of the opera house.  Like many European builders, AV Thaller likes to put paper windows in his building.

A side/rear view.  Note the roof design.

To span the roof with regular Anchor stones, the interior has to include supports.

AV Thaller drew up his design so you can build it too..

He even drew the layer plans.

Of course you will need a rather large number of stones -- 4,910.
