Richter Villa and Factory

The Richter Villa, called a castle (Burg) by Richter himself, was originally a bright white building, as can be seen in some of these early photographs.

A look at the Richter Villa from the top floor of the building stone factory, which is across the street and was built in 1899.  This picture was taken circa 1910.

Another view of the Richter Villa, shortly after completion, circa 1900.  Note the horse and open carriage in from of the villa.  The fountains are working, as they were in 1979.  The water was not recirculated, but came from the Schaala Brook and was released back into the same stream.

A present day look at one of the statues along the driveway going up to the villa.

A look at some of the fine inlay paneling in the villa.  The three front rooms on the first floor of the villa are very fancy and have many inlayed panels.  The rear rooms also have fine wood, but less fancy, paneling.

A photograph of Rudolsbad, from about 1900.  Rudolsbad was used during WWI as a hospital for gas victims.

Pictures were taken of the burned Rudolsbad.  It burned in 1919.  No, I have not checked on the insurance situation.  But, due to the hyper-inflation in 1922, I am sure they would have preferred to still have the hotel.

A trench dug for utilities to the Richter Villa in 1999.  Note the stone building blocks used as land fill in 1890.

A bill from Rudolsbad.  It shows a fine engraving of the hotel.
