What Leo and Jan found!

A look a "slight damage".

These pictures present an idea of what Jan van der Werff and Leo Coffeng found when they arrived in the Richter Villa to begin their restoration project.  Although they had been told that the damage was "slight", they scheduled a week to do the work.

The parts of the Wartburg buildings were in numbered boxes.

The numbers corresponded to the numbers on the castle's  base -- in theory a simple assembly job.

Some of the boxes held building sections in reasonably good condition.

Others held badly broken up sections.

On the bottoms of all of the boxes were very small pieces.

Even the base had been cut into pieces.

Undeterred the restoration team went to work.

Jan has assured me that he withheld the pictures of the worst damage.  But, as I pointed out elsewhere in a web page, over 100 slides had been taken before "disassembly", so at least the necessary information was available.
