The Parthenon

by Peter Hartel

This model of the Parthenon, Athens, is on the exact same scale as the Messerschmidt model on the first page.  Peter has done a wonderful job and has captured many details.

A close-up of the construction.  Note that the fluted columns were made in two styles -- a taper of 1:25 and no taper.  Use of only tapered columns gives the structure a squat look.  Peter has mixed the two types of stones to produce a column of the correct -- most attractive -- taper.  The blue triglyphs are rare.  The original Richter version of a Greek temple design used blue triglyphs and red metopes. Peter, as you can see used yellow stones as metopes.
