Great Castle of 1894

In October I showed one view of the Great Castle exhibition model from 1894.  I promised the revisit this design and show some more views in the future.  This time I am showing the castle, having moved counter-clockwise 90°.  As all Anchor builders will know, the octagonal tower was a pain to build.  And the projections from the main tower required some serious counter weights inside.  Hard to see are the lion "shield holders".  They will be more clearly illustrated when we get a look after the next 90° move.

The inner court yard design is typical of the Täfelchenlegen (laying tile) designs of Richter.  The true mosaic stones have been used around the edge of the center design.  The only real difference between these two different series of sets is that the Täfelchenlegen stones have a primary dimension of 25 mm, just like the Anchor stones themselves and the mosaic stones have a primary dimension of 17.68 (square root of 2 times the standard dimension) so that the dimensions come out correct when these stones are used in a diagonal (diamond) pattern.

A few of you may wonder what I look like.  Here is a picture from this Christmas.  The picture is about as good as they get.
